Radical Polymerization Kinetics of Hexyl Methacrylate in Dimethylsulfoxide Solution

In this study, we conducted a series of polymerization studies hexyl methacrylate in dimethyl sulfoxide with (0.1 - 0.4) mol dm-3 monomer and (1 10-3 – 4 10-3) benzoyl peroxide as initiators at 70 °C. Using the well-known conversion vs. time technique, effects initiator concentration on rate (Rp) were studied. An order 0.35 was obtained accordance theory divergence from normal kinetics detected an 1.53 respect to concentration. The activation energy determined be (72.90) kJ mol-1, which does not correspond value most thermally initiated monomers. observed suggests that propagation termination reactions have equal difference between them is nearly zero. average degree (DPn) decreased increase whereas solvent polarity has slightly increased value.
